Amazonas
Rimon Guimarães · 2012

Opening — Thursday 13 August, 5:45 pm. The artist will be present.
The exhibition runs for six weeks.
The Moscow exhibition is built on a contrast rooted in the artist's own biography. Curitiba is the coldest of Brazil's state capitals, and someone who grew up there knows winter first-hand. Winter Sun brings a tropical palette into a city that lies under snow for half the year, and reflects on warmth as something you can carry with you.
The show brings together works from 2012 to 2024, from the dense, almost totemic pieces of early series such as Amazonas and Spearhead to the recent Laguna Plena cycle, where the forms visibly lighten and open up.
There are unexpected pieces too, such as Astronaut on Kepler and Exoplanet, where Afro-Brazilian imagery crosses with cosmic imagery, in the vein of the Afrofuturism that has become a subject of its own on the world stage in recent years.
An artist of the Afro-Brazilian tradition who came out of the street art of Curitiba: murals in twenty-seven countries, large forms, hard outlines, flat colour.
